Admiring the quilts

President's Message

Two-thousand-and-nine is quickly coming to an end. We have accomplished a lot and have had a great time doing it. Among our projects have been sweatshirt jackets, quilting supplies travel bag, Halloween and birthday wall hangings, door name banners, stained glass windows, and a block-of-the-month quilt.

Our service projects have included quilts for the Children's Home Society and Habitat for Humanity. We also gave our summer quilting lessons for children at the Ormond Beach Library. Next summer we hope to include a teen group.

Earlier this year, most members made a red/black/white quilt block which we put together into a large quilt. We are looking forward to raffling this off at our Christmas luncheon which will be held at Ormond Steakhouse this year. This will be our culminating activity for the year.

Next year's activities include a Christmas block-of-the-month led by Diane Mettler, fabric painting with fresh veggies, fabric bowls made with clothesline and the fabrics of your choice, and many other fun projects and demonstrations.

One sad note for our guild this year was the passing of our dear sister quilter, Doris Schoemer. Her embroidery skills were exceptional, and we all learned a lot from her. She has been and will be sorely missed.

And finally, Quilters by the Sea would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our web guests and local folks a Very Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2010. Hope to see you then.

Sincerely,

Sharon Bauman
QBTS President
