Admiring the quilts

President's Message

Summer is almost upon us again, and we are gearing up for our annual children's "learn to quilt" project at the Ormond Beach Public Library beginning June 12. This year we are making frog-fabric wall hangings. The children who finish before the end of our time there can make a crayon quilt square, so it will be to projects for them this year. We are looking forward to all those eager faces.

On a sad note, our quilting sister Doris Schoemer will not be joining us this year. She passed away on May 13. She was such a sweet lady and quite an accomplished quitler and embroiderer. She will be sorely missed by all the members of our guild, but we know that Heaven will be a brighter place with her presence. Our condolances to her family.

We have donated three quilts to new Habitat for Humanity homeowners in the past few months, and we hope to have more ready in the near future. It is such a rewarding experience to have a hand in this worthwhile endeavor. Of course, our donation quilts for the Children's Home Society are still in full swing.

In the past few months our guild projects have included quilted sweatshirt jackets, trapunto, and stained-glass window quilts. We still have a lot of interesting projects to go, so if you live nearby, we invite you to join our guild and participate in these activities. Those of you who may be visiting the area, please feel free to drop in any Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Stained-Glass Window Quilts

On April 17 and 24, Jan Powell taught QBTS members to make stained-glass window quilts. In the photo below, Jan is discussing and showing an example of the type of fabric design that can most successfully be used in this style quilt.
