Half of 2010 is now gone, and we have been very active. We have had many demos, are half way finished with a Christmas BOM, and have gotten ourselves ready for our annual children's quilting sessions at the Ormond Beach Library. It has been so hot this summer that we have stayed at home most of the time and hopefully have produced some pretty quilts.
Our Children's Library Project has ended for this year. We chose a really cute boat pattern, and the children had a choice of making a pillow, a wall hanging or a bed runner. Most came out with some very nice finished projects and we all had a good time. Next year we are hoping to take some of our better students, especially those who have been with us for a couple of years and teach them some more technical skills of quilting like producing your own templates and cutting your own material. For this project we will probably use a churn dash pattern. We are also increasing our session length to accomplish more.
We have kind of dispensed with our group projects for the summer since a lot of our members are not here. However, in August we will be starting our participation in the Million Pillowcase Challenge and have found a place to donate them. We are also investigating other places where we can donate quilts that we work on as a group at one of our Friday sessions.
We will be decorating the library windows for September. If you live in the area, please be sure to see our display at the entrance to the adult side of the library. Later on in the fall we will be doing the veggie prints that we didn't have time for earlier in the year. Others have come up with some projects that you won't want to miss. So please come and join us anytime you would like. As always, all visitors are welcome.
Looking to December, we are having our Christmas party again at Ormond Steakhouse the second Friday of that month. Come get involved with us as you won't want to miss that experience.
We at Quilters by the Sea hope that you will have a very pleasant fall and will drop in to visit with us.
Sincerely,
Sharon Bauman
